The New Zealand College Of Astrology

The New Zealand College of Astrology (NZCA) was founded in 1985 under the auspices of The Astrology Foundation Incorporated (AFI) as an educational body for the purpose of training students of astrology in sound astrological techniques with a primary focus on the midpoint system of astrology developed by the late Reinhold Ebertin of Germany. The NZCA aims to produce astrologers with a high degree of integrity and who will be able to contribute to the advancement of astrological knowledge, and who will maintain standards of professionalism in their astrological practice. To this end carefully graded courses of tuition have been designed.

The Aims & Objectives of the New Zealand College of Astrology are to:

a) raise the standard of astrological knowledge & practice in New Zealand

b) provide courses of tuition

c) award certificates for different grades

d) confer Professional Astrologer status on students who have met the full requirements of the entire course

e) encourage and organise research, discussion and the promotion of serious astrology


Description of 1998 Courses

PHASE 1 CLASS : BEGINNERS:

A 10 week orientation course in midpoint astrology. For those just beginning to study astrology and for those with some experience who wish to gain a clear insight into its structure and workings. This course covers terms, symbols, planets, signs, aspects, midpoints, transits, locational astrology, compatibility charts, and basic chart construction. Includes NZCA Phase 1 workbook and hand-outs.

Requirements for certification: Attendance of no less than 8 classes.

When: Monday evenings 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Summer class: February 23 - May 4 (no class Easter Monday)

Spring class: September 21 - November 30

PHASE 2 CLASS : INTERMEDIATE : For holders of Phase 1 Certificate

Tuesday evenings 7:00pm - 8:30pm

A one year course, divided into three terms. Develops further understanding of the workings and language of astrology through practical application in the delineation of contemporary case history natal charts. Students are required to attend 10 weekly classes per term and submit homework. This course requires self-motivation, student application and dedication. Includes hand-outs.

Term 1: February 24 - May 5

The twelve signs of the zodiac, the planets and the four angles (Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven and Imum coeli), the qualities & the elements, the polarities, basic astronomy for astrologers, the planets in the signs in depth, the lunar nodes, the Aries Point, the Vertex, the Equatorial Ascendant & the Part of Fortune.

Term 2: June 16 - August 19

Aspect theory, aspect patterns, aspect grids, hard & soft aspects and major & minor aspects, aspect orbs, cosmobiology's aspects, aspect interpretation, planets in aspect interpretation, midpoint theory, calculation of midpoints, interpreting midpoints, the Cardinal/Fixed/Mutable Sort, midpoint trees and interpretation of midpoint trees.

Term 3: September 22 - November 24

Transit theory, transit interpretation, harmonious & challenging transits, planetary cycles, natural cycles, planetary returns and transits to the four angles, mid-life transits, the 45° graphic ephemeris, the 45° graphic midpoint ephemeris, lunations & eclipses, transits to midpoints & transiting midpoints, the preparation of the natal chart for interpretation.

Requirements for certification: Determined by assessment of year's work.

PHASE 3 CLASS : ADVANCED : For Holders of Phase 1 and 2 Certificates

Wednesday evenings 7:00pm - 8:30pm

A one year course divided into three terms. Further develops an understanding of the workings and language of astrology through practical application in the delineation of contemporary natal charts and progressions. Includes birth time rectification, relationship charts, advanced predictive techniques, Astro*Carto*Graphy and mundane astrology. Students are required to attend 10 weekly classes per term and complete set assignments. This course requires self-motivation, student application and dedication. Includes hand-outs.

Term 1: February 25 - May 6

The creation of a cosmic sketch for chart delineation, the synthesising of the natal chart, synastry & composite charts, wedding charts, the contact cosmogram.

Term 2: June 17 - August 19

Annual progressions, solar arc directions & secondary progressions, the life diagram, ingress charts and solar returns.

Term 3: September 23 - November 25

Mundane astrology, birth time rectification, Astro*Carto*Graphy, relocation charts.

Requirements for certification: Determined by assessment of year's work.

Price: $150.00 per term


PHASE 4 CLASS : ADVANCED/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION: For Holders of Phase 1, 2 and 3 Certificates

Thesis, study groups, professional training and development of teaching and lecturing skills.

Students have the facilities of the NZCA available to them, plus access to NZCA tutors, by appointment. As such, it is up to each student to arrange their own timetable to suit individual needs.

Students are required to:

* Prepare a thesis on a specialist area of astrology

* Develop professional standards, and teaching and lecturing skills.

Requirements for certification: Acceptance of thesis.

Price: Based on consultation time with tutor.


CHART CONSTRUCTION CLASS : INTERMEDIATE

May 13 - June 3

A four week course in natal chart construction. Students will be taught how to erect a natal chart manually for anywhere in the world without the aid of a computer. Instruction will also be given in calculation of secondary progressions. Completion of this course is a requirement for Phase 3 & 4 certification. NZCA Chart Construction Manual is supplied. One course per year.

Requirements for certification: Attendance of all 4 classes.

When: Wednesday evenings 7:00pm - 8:30pm

GENERAL REMARKS

* All NZCA classes are held at Astrology House, 41 New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland, tel 373-5304 (NB: The NZCA does not offer a correspondence course or on-line school)

* The NZCA conducts a number of weekend seminars throughout the year. These are so structured as to be of assistance to students working towards their Phase 2, 3 and 4 certificates.

* Phase 4 students working on their own source material and their thesis are encouraged to attend Phase 1, 2 and 3 classes by arrangement with the NZCA faculty.

* Class materials and hand-outs are provided by the NZCA. Students are required to obtain their own reference texts and writing materials.
